Erection begins where fabrication ends: fabricated members leave the workshop and are lifted into final position on site. A 100 to 150 tonne single-storey frame normally stands in three to six weeks on site once steel lands, though crane capacity, plot access and the level of pre-assembly decide the real number.
- Shop drawing approval and IFC release, usually 2 to 4 weeks after award.
- Fabrication and surface treatment, 3 to 6 weeks depending on tonnage and the galvanising queue.
- Delivery schedule agreed with the main contractor, with laydown and offloading space confirmed.
- Setting out and anchor bolt survey, 1 to 2 days.
- Main frame erection, 4 to 10 working days for a typical warehouse portal frame.

Two UAE constraints shape that programme. Crane availability tightens in Q4 across Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi as logistics and industrial projects overlap, so book the crane once the delivery date is fixed. The summer midday break rule, which stops outdoor work between 12:30 and 15:00 from 15 June to 15 September, pushes lifting into early morning and late afternoon windows and can add two or three days to a large frame.
Approvals, inspection and compliance
On a licensed plot in Dubai, erection sits inside a building permit issued through Dubai Municipality and the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, with Dubai Civil Defence approval needed for structural fire protection. Welded structural connections require third-party inspection, so expect an ITP, qualified WPS and WPQR records, welder certificates, and ultrasonic or magnetic particle testing on full penetration welds.
The handover pack you should receive: approved shop drawings, material test certificates, WPS and WPQR, welder qualifications, NDT reports, torque calibration certificates, grout test results, coating thickness readings and a signed HSE method statement with rigging certificates for the crew. If an erector cannot produce these on request, the saving on their rate will not cover the cost of re-inspection.

Check three things before you shortlist: who employs the erectors, who carries the insurance, and whether the crew has erected comparable tonnage. Everything else is secondary.
